Using Evaluation Tools to Strengthen Your Development Program

DICKINSON, N.D. – Reserve Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. for the Using Evaluation Tools to Strengthen Your Development Program audio conference to be held at the Strom Center in Dickinson.

COCO (Coalition of Charitable Organizations) will be holding educational opportunities via audio conference for non-profit training. This audio will be presented by Linda Lysakowski, ACFRE. The sponsor for the event is DLN Consulting, Inc.. COCO’s educational opportunities are free to COCO members, $25 for non-members.

10th Annual Strom Conference This Thursday

The 10th Annual Strom Conference with be held this Thursday, April 22, 2010, at the Days Hotel in Dickinson, North Dakota. The day will begin with a continental breakfast and registration at 8:00 am. An opening note will be presented by President Dr. Richard McCallum of Dickinson State University, Steve Glasser, Strom Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Executive Director, and Jerome Strom, our Honored Guest. Jerome is the inspiration for the annual conference and is a major component to the Strom Center. We are very excited to have him present at the 10th Annual Strom Conferencce!

After a short break, inspirational speaker Bob Upgren, will be the first keynote speaker presenting “Most Artists Can’t Draw- Unmasking the New World of Work.” After Bob, there will be another short break, followed by the first breakout session. Each of the three breakout sessions will consist of three different topics. Attendees will be able to choose which presentation to attend (Please refer to the registration form for breakout session topics).

Lunch will be provided during the conference’s second keynote. Stacy Sturm and Nicole Morrison-Mathern of URL Radio will be presenting “From Floods to FedEx- We did it!” These two entrepreneurs possess a great success story in today’s society. Breakout sessions two and three will follow lunch. After the breakout sessions, Bob Upgren will close our day with the final keynote speech.

High Five Looking For Volunteers

The High Five Inc Board is currently seeking volunteers to become board members. If there are not enough board members they might not be able to hold their camp. The board meets a few times over the winter months and once a month in the spring and summer months. The meetings are only approximately 30 minutes to one hour.

The High Five Camp is a collaborative effort between High Five Inc., Badlands Human service Center, United Way, and Dickinson Public Schools. The camp provides a fun, structured experience for emotionally, socially, and behaviorally challenged youth ages 6 to 13.

New Additions to Prairie Hills Mall

Music Mart - Now Located in Prairie Hills Mall

The Prairie Hills Mall in Dickinson, North Dakota is experiencing some new additions. Just last week, Music Mart moved into the old Subway location, between RadioShack and K-Mart. Music Mart, previously located in the T-Rex Mall, is very excited about the move! For more information about Music Mart, you can call (701) 483-7529.

Starboard - Opening Soon in Prairie Hills Mall

Another new addition to the mall will be coming soon. Starboard is expected to open in March. They will sell both men’s and women’s clothing, shoes, accessories, and recreational sports equipment. Starboard will be located between White Drug and Vanity.

Quicken® and QuickBooks® Classes

Reserve Feb. 19 and 20 for an all-day class on the Quicken® or QuickBooks® accounting software. North Dakota State University’s Ron Haugen will be teaching the courses which are hosted by the Small Business Development Center and the Strom Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Classes will be held at the Strom Center. The Strom Center is located at 1679 6th Ave W Dickinson, ND.

These classes are open to the public and to any individual or business who wants to further their knowledge on the accounting software. Although the classes are intended for beginning to intermediate users, those with all levels of experience are welcome.

QuickBooks® class will be held on Friday, Feb. 19 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Quicken® class will be on Saturday, Feb. 20 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Refreshments will be provided for the two break sessions. One hour will be given for lunch. Lunch will not be provided. Class fees are $35 per person, per class.

North Dakota Child Grant Program

The 2nd round of applications for the Child Care Grant Program will be accepted from February 1, 2010 to March 31, 2010. To access the grant application and process, please follow this link: http://www.communityservices.nd.gov/community/child-care-grant-program/

The Child Care Grant Program was initiated by the 61st North Dakota Legislative Assembly providing $500,000 of one-time funding to assist North Dakota child care providers with infrastructure and technical assistance/business plans. The first round of grants awarded $265,000 to 96 child care providers. The remaining $235,000 will be awarded by June 1, 2010.

The North Dakota Development Fund was also authorized to provide financial assistance to childcare providers through loans.

Dickinson Young Professionals Annual Chili Cook-Off

Dickinson Young Professionals (DYP) is once again holding their Annual Chili Cook-Off. The event will be held on February 22, 2010 and will kick off with a social at 5:00 pm. The officially tasting will begin at 5:30 pm. It will be held at the Strom Center (1679 6th Avenue West) in Dickinson, ND.

Attendees will have the chance to win prizes as well as eat some amazing chili! There will also be the opportunity to play games and socialize. Even if you haven’t yet been to a DYP event, come join us!
