DICKINSON, ND – The Blue Hawk Booster Club and the Dickinson State University (DSU) Alumni Association & Foundation are partnering together to sponsor tailgate parties prior to each DSU football game.

The first Blue Hawk Tailgate Party will kick off at 3:30 p.m. at the Badlands Activities Center north parking lot on August 26, prior to the 7:00 p.m. football game between DSU and Rocky Mountain College.

There are 60, 10’ x 25’ spots available to the public at a cost of $25 per home game in the designated area where barbequing and alcohol consumption is allowed. Spots may be reserved for the entire season and locations will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Campers and oversized SUV vehicles will be required to purchase a minimum of two slots for each game and all locations must be purchased prior to game day.

The first tailgate party of the season will feature an All-American theme and tailgaters are encouraged to be creative with their menus. Spots can be reserved by contacting the DSU Foundation at 701-483-2004 or by emailing Mark Versen.

A “Forever a Blue Hawk” statue dedication and unveiling will also take place at 6:15 p.m. on that same date, prior to the football game. For all future games the tailgate party area will open at 9:00 a.m. for 1:30 p.m. games and conclude at the start of the third quarter.

You are invited to take part in the second annual Community Field Day. This event being held on October 5, 2010 from 9:00am to 4:00pm is being hosted by the Strom Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, with support from Dickinson State University at the Badlands Activities Center.

The day will feature community success panelists as well as author and Kentucky Economic Developer, Kim Huston. Her book, “Small Town Sexy: the Allure of Living in Small Town America” demonstrates what is wonderful about small town life. She reveals why residents love their not-so-big-city lifestyle and how small town charms are seducing newcomers. Huston speaks from experience, as a small town girl who cherishes her roots—and as a professional who is helping develop her town’s economic prosperity.

Social media has become key to helping businesses attract and keep customers, but it can be a time-consuming activity, plus there is a knack to being a good blogger. So who should do the blogging and take care of your twitter feed? This short article offers one perspective about why your intern may be a better blogger than the boss.

The Strom Center is working to expand the number of people contributing to our own social media efforts so that our best blogger, Kim Goldsmith, can prepare and deliver the extensive web and social media training we have planned for this fall. The class schedule is in process, and Kim will be in several North Dakota communities to share her expertise and help businesses in the areas of expanding their web presence and improving their social media skills. Stay tuned for more information about where and when the classes will be.
