Dr. David Flynn to Speak About Economy

Dr. David Flynn will be coming to Dickinson next Thursday, September 24, 2009. He will be giving an economic forecast of Dickinson’s business and industry. The event is scheduled from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, with lunch being served. It will take  place in the Dickinson State University Student Center. The cost to attend is $25 for the general public or $20 for Chamber members or SBDC clients. This event is being co-sponsored by: Strom Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Small Business Development Center, and Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce.

On Wednesday evening, September 23, 2009, there will be an exclusive event with Dr. Flynn for the Dickinson Young Professional members. YP members will be given the opportunity to discuss the economy with Dr. Flynn as well as ask questions. This event will take place at the Dickinson Research Extension Center (located on State Avenue) from 5:30 to 6:15 pm.

Dr. David T. Flynn is an Associate Professor of Economics and Director of the Bureau of Business & Economic Research at the College of Business & Public Administration, University of North Dakota. He also serves as the Associate Director of the North Dakota Small Business Development Center.

His commentary on the North Dakota economy has appeared in print and online publications such as BusinessWeek, Newsweek, American Banker, and the Financial Times and in newspaper and magazines from the United States, Brazil, Finland, and Japan. He is also a regular on KNOX radio, Grand Forks, with his show “Wall Street to Main Street.”

Mayor’s Committee on Employment of Persons With Disabilities

The Mayor’s Committee is seeking nominations for the 2009 Awards which will be given at the Annual Chamber Banquet on October 27, 2009.  Please consider submitting a nomination in one or all of the following categories:

Award Descriptions:

PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
This award recognizes the personal accomplishment in the work place of an individual with a disability.  The individual, through his or her success at work has achieved a more empowered lifestyle and a greater connection and contribution to the community.

PERSONAL COMMITMENT AWARD
This award recognizes a person or group who has demonstrated leadership and vision in positively promoting employment for people with disabilities with the understanding that through work, all people have opportunity to succeed and achieve a more empowered lifestyle.  Candidates to consider may include business owner, supervisor, employment consultant, human resource person, elected or appointed official, fellow employee, and private citizen.

EMPLOYER RECOGNITION AWARD
This award recognizes employers both public and private who have demonstrated commitment to hiring a person(s) with disabilities.  The employer actively supports recruitment, placement, training and career advancement for people with disabilities. The employer also provides needed supports to ensure the continuing success of the employee(s) at their company.

BUILDER’S AWARD
This award recognizes a building owner/architect/contractor who has demonstrated a commitment to building design and construction, whether new or remodeled, that is accessible beyond the requirements of ADA.  Public, private, commercial, and residential properties may be considered as nominees.

Dickinson Chamber of Commerce Banquet

Tonight is the annual Chamber Banquet and Meeting.  The majority of the Strom Center staff will be attending.  The invitation reads, Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the Days Hotel Grand Dakota Lodge and Conference Center.   The social starts at 6:00pm and the dinner starts at 7:00pm.  For those of you that forgot, make sure you make it out to the banquet.  Come find us from the Strom Center.
