The first resource is Grants.Gov. Here, you can get a grant application packet and figure out which grants fit your needs.

The second resource is a different type of resource. It is actually the North Dakota Economic Development 2020 Target Goals, which were compiled by ND EDND/Commerce. This document allows you to see what the projected year 2020 looks like, which will help you better figure out which areas to focus your efforts on now. It will also help you figure out what type of grants to apply for. On top of that, it’s just a really good way to get an idea of what the year 2020 might look like

Another argument is that technology is making us dumber because we don’t have time to think and are constantly distracted by our Blackberries and interruptions — that no one knows how to concentrate for more than five minutes anymore. Some argue that it’s not the technology that makes us dumb, it’s how we use that technology (one point of view can be found here).

CNN did a story recently about neuroscientists that left their technology behind for several days while they explored the great outdoors. They wanted to see what not using technology for a while would do to their thought processes (video is here).

Through all these debates, it seems like technology is equated with online activity, email, cell phones, and maybe high definition video. But those are just communication methods – the means to get to the real technology: accounting packages, credit processing systems, inventory management, CRM systems, data analysis, process management – tools that can make a business prosper.

So yes, technology does make a difference – both the technology that helps us run our businesses and the technology that helps us access that other technology.

Even if you answer “no” to all of these & regardless of what you might be doing currently, there more than likely will come a point in your life when you are going to need an elevator pitch. Now some of you might be asking “what is an elevator pitch?” According to Wikipedia, “An elevator pitch or elevator speech is an overview of a product, service, person, group or organization, or project and is often a part of a fundraising, marketing communications, brand, or public relations program. The name “elevator pitch” reflects the idea that it should be possible to deliver an elevator pitch in the time span of an elevator ride, or approximately thirty seconds to two minutes. …”

Because each of us will reach a point in our life where we will need some type of elevator pitch, it’s important to prepare now. To help you get started, watch this video. The first Blue Hawk Tailgate Party will kick off at 3:30 p.m. at the Badlands Activities Center north parking lot on August 26, prior to the 7:00 p.m. football game between DSU and Rocky Mountain College.

There are 60, 10’ x 25’ spots available to the public at a cost of $25 per home game in the designated area where barbequing and alcohol consumption is allowed. Spots may be reserved for the entire season and locations will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Campers and oversized SUV vehicles will be required to purchase a minimum of two slots for each game and all locations must be purchased prior to game day.

The first tailgate party of the season will feature an All-American theme and tailgaters are encouraged to be creative with their menus. Spots can be reserved by contacting the DSU Foundation at 701-483-2004 or by emailing Mark Versen.

A “Forever a Blue Hawk” statue dedication and unveiling will also take place at 6:15 p.m. on that same date, prior to the football game. For all future games the tailgate party area will open at 9:00 a.m. for 1:30 p.m. games and conclude at the start of the third quarter.
