Strom Center Staff Attended Social Media Conference

Strom Center staff members Lenny Johnson and Kim Hayes attended the first Social Media Conference NW 2008, The New Word of Mouth Marketing in Bellingham, Washington September 10-11. At the conference, they learned useful skills which they will be able to use in helping local businesses. They gathered information on blogging, podcasting, online marketing, branding, and much more. They learned more about MySpace, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and many other social networking sites. Strom Center Staff – Sandy Bertelsen, Web Manager

Sandy Bertelsen comes to the Strom Center from Dickinson Public Schools, where she was an Educational Technology Support Specialist. Sandy is an alumnus of DSU with a Bachelor of University Studies, and in July she completed her Master of Science in Instructional Technology from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. Sandy is also certified to teach Information Technology at the secondary level. Originally from Williston, ND, Sandy and her family relocated to Dickinson in 1979 when her husband Mike transferred to assist with opening Getter Trucking’s Dickinson terminal. Later Getter Trucking was purchased by Black Hills Trucking, and Mike has worked for them for over 18 years. Mike and Sandy have four children and seven grandchildren who Sandy adores!

In the 10 months since joining the Strom Center team as Web Manager, Sandy spearheaded the revision of the Dickinson area Web site for use as a recruiting tool to attract workforce to southwest ND. Since “going live” on February 8, 2009, the Web site has become the number one destination site for Internet searchers looking for Dickinson and southwest North Dakota. It provides a tremendous demonstration of the benefits of our area. Check it out yourself at www.dickinsonnd.com. A recent Photo Contest was one of Sandy’s many projects to update and improve the site, as are the addition of a blog and twitter account. Be sure to read them and add your comments! Sandy is currently working with a local company on revising and updating their Web site, and she will soon be able to provide this type of assistance to other businesses in Dickinson and southwest ND.
